Rinse and repeat

In addition to working in the beauty section for FAMOUS, I’ve been exposed to a whole new world of hydration masks, serums, exfoliants and beauty regimes – thanks to my temporary roommate Nicci (follow @nicola_leech). I’ve always been a simple soap and water girl, so I’m not too educated in the skin care department. Nicci’s bathroom cabinet has left me in awe, and her array of products are impressive, but also minimal.

“It doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars to achieve clear skin, just a dedicated daily routine”, says Nicci.

Nicci is all about showering twice a day, and therefore cleaning her face twice a day (and I’ve been forced to do the same). Her skin is luminous and basically looks photoshopped with or without makeup. Her olive skin literally glows, so I thought it would be a nice idea for her to share her skin care secrets with readers who need to learn a thing or two like me.

KORA Organics, Chanel, Youngblood and Olay are all you need to achieve Nicci’s flawless complexion.

Nicci’s first step in her morning routine is to cleanse. KORA Organics Cream Cleanser is on her shelf, and she uses the ‘cream’ product for normal to dry skin types. There is also a foaming version for oily skin, which I will invest in for myself. It’s as simple as rinsing your face, applying the cream in a circular motion over your skin, and then rinsing it off with warm water. Nicci uses this product morning and night, and finds it conveniently doubles as a makeup remover as well.

“Avoid using makeup removing wipes as I find these irritate the sensitive skin around the eye area, which may lead to developing wrinkles,” says Nicci.

Next step in the process is to apply the KORA Organics Hydrating Mask. This can be applied once a week (or twice a week in winter for drier skin), and helps to remove dirt and grime from pores.

“It basically just makes your skin amazing”, says Nicci.

The mask should be applied to rinsed, clean skin, and is to be left to set for 10 – 15 minutes. So if you’re rushed for time in the morning before work, apply it as part of your nightly skin care routine.

The last of Nicci’s KORA products is the Calming Lavender Mist spray. This is a good beauty tool to carry in your handbag, and can be sprayed gently onto your skin anytime of the day, even over makeup.

“It just refreshes my skin, gives me a radiant glow, and wakes me up,” says Nicci.

“I like it because it helps soothe tired skin throughout the day.”

As Nicci informs me about this product, she is literally spraying it over her face – and now mine – which feels amazing after a long day at the office!

Serums are an important product to have and are often overlooked in the daily skin care regime. Nicci uses these two Chanel serums as part of her makeup routine, after she has cleansed and moisturised her face (she moisturises with Olay ‘Complete’).

“You can use either of these as toners or primers before applying your foundation,” says Nicci.

“It’s a great product to use as a base for luminous looking skin.”

The end result – flawless, glowing skin! Nicci’s makeup bag is very simple, just like her bathroom cabinet. She uses Chanel ‘Lumiere Velvet’ foundation, Chanel ‘Correcteur Perfection’ concealer, followed by Youngblood Mineral Radiance for highlighting. And finishes it off with a sweep of Maybelline’s ‘The Colossal Volum Express’ mascara over her lashes.

Voila!
